Bioinformatics deals with computational and mathematical approaches to understand, analyze and process biological and biomedical data. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has revolutionized many fields of science and seems to be unavoidable due to its powerful contributions in solving many real-life challenges. Machine learning (ML) and its recent advances are expected to dramatically change the human health and disease. This overview gives a brief survey of ML techniques and highlights the usefulness and the power of ML approaches in bioinformatics and biological sciences.
